Ardingly is a village overlooking the Ouse valley, north of Haywards Heath. The 14th-century church of St Peter has an impressive tower. Ardingly College, situated nearby, is a notable Public School. Wakehurst Place, built in 1590, is a country estate with large ornamental gardens and tree collections. Now in the care of the National Trust and run by the Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew, it is open to visitors. The South of England agricultural showground is in the locality. Ardingly reservoir caters for the expanding needs of public water supply in the area, and has facilities for watersports.
