More about this scene
Bamburgh also holds the distinction of being the first castle to be breached by gunfire. During the Wars of the Roses Bamburgh was besieged by the Yorkists in 1461 and again in 1464. The latter siege was conducted by Edward IV, who deployed two large cannon. However it should be pointed out that the garrison was already on the point of surrendering, having eaten the last of their horses.
