Queen Elizabeth's School Buildings

A Memory of Barnet.

I was a pupil at this school from 1951-1958. The main building built in 1932, was extended at the west end (obscured in the photo by the trees) in 1954 and at the east end (asymmetrically!) in 1956. This photo shows no extension at the east end so this photo must be pre-1955 (and I think pre 1954). Futher buildings were built behind the school in 1957. School started at 9.15 on Monday and finished At 12.40 on Saturday morning (!).

Many thanks for this information - it has been passed to our Archivist and the database will be updated. Ed.

Comments & Feedback

I went to QE girls from 1954-1959,and we used to have to walk up to the boys school to have swimming lessons- all the boys whose classes overlooked the swimming pool used to gawp at us from the windows! I remember ( I think!) that the headmaster was a Mr Jenkins, our headmistress was Miss Balaam, and for some reason I was terrified of her! I left Barnet in 1962, but even though I now live in Notts I still think of Barnet as my home town- haven’t been there for years, I bet it’s changed completely since the 1960s!
