More about this scene

The Abbey was dissolved in 1539. Its lands were sold to John Bellow and John Bloxham, though they later passed into the hands of the Forsters of Bamburgh. Forced to sell for financial reasons, Tom and Dorothy Forster sold the village to Lord Crewe, Bishop of Durham, and their aunt's husband.

A Selection of Memories from Blanchland
