More about this scene

Little trace of the railway remains today (Broadstone Leisure Centre stands on much of it), but this was once a busy junction, where the Bournemouth main branch crossed the London, Southampton and Weymouth main line. In 1890 a headmistress died and others were injured when an express train ploughed into a light engine standing at the station. Most of the buildings to the right survive.

It's Not How It Was Back Then... Some Nostalgia For The Fifties And Early Sixties.
My parents ran a shop on the Broadway from the late nineteen forties until the early fifties, I think. It was a general store and – as far as I know – a seed merchant’s. I was born in 1950, but Heather, my older sister, would probably know more - I must ask her. The business failed when the manager of Dad’s ambitious second branch in Kinson ( I think) ...see more

Cordite Factory And Broadstone
Hallo, my grandfather Frank Sherwood worked at the factory in 1939, and the family lived in the Broadstone area. Does anyone have any memories to share about the factory of the Sherwoods?

Happy Days!!
I moved to Broadstone with my parents at the tender age of 2, and we lived in Sidney Road, off York Road. It was 1950, and ,of course there was no Waterloo Estate at that time, so York Road ended when it came to the railway line and the tiny station of Creekmoor Halt. Most of the people using the station worked in the Cordite factory (where Siemens is situated now). It seemed quite a forbiding and secretive place to us ...see more

My Memories Of Broadstone
My earliest memories of Broadstone stem from about 1937 when I was five years old. We lived in Southbourne at the time and frequently went to Broadstone at weekends to visit my "aunt Flo" and her family who lived at Lower Blandford Road. Genealogy & Research Images

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
