More about this scene

Some of the flavour of the old village remains in this view today, which looks eastwards along Broadwater Street East. The green island has gone, and the terrace of three cottages on the left was rebuilt in the 1960s as a Nat West Bank. The churchyard is on the right behind the houses and shops; the one on the left has a mansard roof, the one on the right is now a hairdressers - 'Beyond the Fringe'. The church is an excellent one of about 1160, with a central tower and 15th-century nave arcades, but heavy-handed Victorian restoration has somewhat spoiled things.

A Selection of Memories from Broadwater

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Broadwater

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

This is the Offington Corner roundabout where the A27 and A24 diverge. I cycled round it every school-day for eight years.
