More about this scene

Charles Stuart, fleeing after his defeat at the Battle of Worcester in 1651, reached Bromsgrove disguised as the servant of the remarkable Jane Lane. Charles found himself in the extraordinary position of having to denounce himself to the Parliamentarian blacksmith who was shoeing his horse. The smith congratulated the fugitive for being 'an honest man'.

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

My husband's grandfather Eustace Egbert George Duffill was born in 1869 at the Bromsgrove Institue in the High Street. Please can anyone tell me whether the Institute building features in any of the photographs of the High Street. I believe his father was librarian there.
