Near Sherford Street.

A Memory of Bromyard.

When I first moved to Worcestershire - or Hereford & Worcestershire as it was then - I had a temporary post under the Job Creation Scheme. We were working for Malvern Council, doing such delightful work as glass fibre insulation of lofts & cleaning out gutters. Being young & keen we would often run out of our scheduled work by midweek. We would then get a cash 'sub' from the manager, take our van, & disappear for the day. Often going for a pub lunch. At the Seven Stars in nearby Ledbury, I met a young lady, Judith. At the time she was working at the local vets. We ended up going out for several years. I never met her parents, who lived in a terraced cottage just up from Sherford Street. Despite her being in her '20's & a qualified teacher, they were very protective of their daughter, and I guess I looked like a typical long haired '70's 'rocker/biker' type. Not the sort you wanted to introduce to your parents!
Judith had a little brown C70 Honda step-thru, & later on a split screen Morris 1000. During the time we were together, I had a Honda 125, Jawa 350 & Kawasaki Z-400. In the evenings we'd ride or drive out to little country pubs where we was unlikely be seen by friends of her family. She then got a teaching post at a village near Huntington, & I visited her there a few times. By then, I'd left the Council & got a job as a Civil Servant. We drifted apart after that. Found out recently that she had married a couple of years after we had split up, & not long after died in an accident.
