Christmas Deliveries: If you placed an order on or before midday on Friday 19th December for Christmas delivery it was despatched before the Royal Mail or Parcel Force deadline and therefore should be received in time for Christmas. Orders placed after midday on Friday 19th December will be delivered in the New Year.

Designed by Edgar Wood, the inn opened on 18 February 1897; the licence had been transferred from the previous inn at Trub Farmhouse. The mock- Tudor front was added later. Original carved dragons have survived on either side of the painted sign of St George on horseback killing the dragon. Posters on the right are for the municipal elections of 10 May 1951. One urges onlookers: `Your choice Arthur Tweedale again for Castleton`.

My First School
The year i started school at st Gabriels. I remember being carried up the hill by my mother and being met at the school entrance by Miss Cleary! She was a rather fat lady dressed all in brown and wearing a brown cardigan. Very welcoming i recall. but i was terrified and did'nt want to be there! Bygone Days
This was my first school. We came from kirkholt to Castleton every day to school. I remember Mrs O'Brien Miss Cleary and Miss O'Leary. Miss O Learys' class room had a large open fireplace in it. We used to go on nature walks on what is possibly the motorway now.

Happy Days
Having just discovered this site I find it very interesting to read some of the posts. I was born and bred in Castleton (1948) and have many happy memories. From leaving school I work at Garrets butchers for 7 years until going into the motor trade for 33 years at Carcraft. Teenage Life In Castleton
I too have memories of Castleton. When I was 16 (in 1963) my family moved to Milnrow Road in Rochdale, and so I was only about 3 or 4 miles from where my cousins the Thompson family (Derek, Joyce and Geoff) lived in Castleton. Many a time I would cycle up to see Geoff (he is 3 days younger than me) and we would ride out to a park in between Castleton and Heywood (anyone remember the name?). I ...see more

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
