Very First Memory!
A Memory of Corfe Mullen.
My very earliest memory takes me back to the Second World War. My parents were renting a house in Wareham Road. Dad was working at the RN Cordite Factory at Holton Heath. It was dark, and he was due home at any time. There was an air raid on, and German bombers were attacking Holton Heath - or it may have been the decoy factory in Poole Harbour,
I could not have been more than two or three (I'm now 81!) but I distinctly recall my mother standing at the front gate with me in her arms. She must have somehow conveyed her worry to me, as I clearly recall the blood pounding in my ears. Dad arrived home safely shortly afterwards.
Some years later I learned from my parentsw that they had the opportunity to buy that house for £400, but that was way beyond their means. The house is still there, and I wonder what it is worth today?
