Croft 1940

A Memory of Croft-on-Tees.

I came to croft as I will always remember it, with my Mother and two Sisters, looking for my Dad, who was in a Searchlight detachment in Hurworth. We stayed at first with the Mansfield family, before we got Rose Cottage in Hurworth. I am now writing a book[ for the family] about my Dads early War. he went on to Burma later in the War. After the War we came back to Croft, and had many happy holidays. The picture of Croft across the river shows Harry Rowes shop, which normally sold sweets and ice cream. I remember Hollands buses, which went from Darlington to Hurworth. The love of my life [young as it was ] was Nanny Oldridge, who lived at the second last house in the terrace just up from the Comet, going up the bank towards Hurworth. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with me as I have many memories of Croft and the people. Tom Young.
