Young Parkinson Family Of Crook, Howden Le Wear, And Barnard Castle Co. Durham
A Memory of Crook.
My Mum, Edna Young, was born at 6, Cemetery Cottages, Crook, on the 26th of December, 1922. Dad was Walter Lawrence Young, who was born: (35) Bridge Street, in Howden le Wear, and Mum, was Hilda Parkinson. She was born in No.2 Baliol Street, in Barnard Castle. They Married in the Hope Street Methodist Chapel, Crook. - The Young Family, through from Monkwearmouth, Jarrow, Crook, Howden le Wear, Witton Le Wear, and Bishop Auckland, many of them were Coal Miners. My Grandad, Walter was also a coal miner, and his Dad worked for an Uncle Thomas Young, who once owned a Flour and General Store/Post Office, for a very long time, in Howden Le Wear. The surnames from the female side, include White, Green, and were used for 'middle' names, such as Robert White Young, who was born in the Woodifield area of Crook. He died in around 1916/17. Before my Grandparents got married, they were living in Grey Street, in Crook and 9/11, Baliol Street, in Barnard Castle. They then lived in 6, Cemetery Cottages, in Crook, which we went to see after losing my Mum. The Cottages have been converted into 3. We spoke to a Man, while we were there, and he invited us in to look in his and how they are now. My Mum and one of her Sisters, were born there also, and the other two sisters were born in Baliol Street, Barnard Castle.
