Walsh Manor School
A Memory of Crowborough.
I went to Walsh Manor School as a boarder with my sister in 1950. I was a schoolboy of seven at the time but I can remember the owners, Mr & Mrs Hemmings & their daughter , I think was Heather. We used to help with the haymaking etc at weekends. I always understood the adjoining farm was part of the school and loved every minute of my time there. In those days it was extremly avant garde to have a mixed boarding school and it did have a bit of a hippy reputation; I recall it was the first such boarding school in the UK. Sadly our father returned from overseas & I ended up in a strict prep school in Surbiton. I would love to see any photos from that era and to hear from anyone who went there then. Unfortunately in those days cameras plus developing & printing was somewhat expensive and well beyond my pocket money. Angus Ellis.

Maurice Hemmings had just purchased the farm . Many many happy memories I have of those days and still keep in touch with the family. You may remember Mac's Taxie, a old cart I use to pull about, or the Sunday evenings listening to Grand Hotel or the children telling ghost stories . What wonderful days. Regards Macs
