More about this scene

By the date this picture was taken, Doncaster had been a racing centre for nearly three hundred years and had been the home of the oldest classic race, the St Leger, since its first running in 1778. The earliest grandstand was designed by John Carr of York and dates from 1776. Carr's other work includes the Crescent (1780-84) and the Great Stables (1789) at Buxton, Derbyshire, commissioned by the fifth Duke of Devonshire after seeing some of Carr's work at Wentworth Woodhouse, seat of Lord Rockingham.

Hyde Park In The 1960s
Hi I lived in Hyde park in the1960s.We used to play football in elm field park,I used to have to walk to school on balby bridge called st Francis.memorable days.i have looked for photographs of Hyde park in the 60s but have never seen any.i lived on Palmer street,have you any pictures I would love to see them.

Tracing Family History
I was born in Kirk Sandall, Doncaster, and our family are trying to trace the family tree. My grandmother Mrs F M Britten used to run a grocery shop at 109 Balby Road in the 1930s (I believe it's now a hairdressers) Does anyone remember this, and has any photo's of the shop. My father, Samuel Britten died 5years ago, so I'm trying to find someone who may have any memories of that time, and fill in some history. My name was Anne Britten prior to marriage.

Rossington
i lived in old Rossington in the early 1950 had many happy hours playing on the old round tree it is not there any more and going down stringy billies .got married in 1966 and moved to armthorpe my name before i was married marlene thompson

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
