This fine stone bridge is not unlike the one at Higher Brock. The Ribble Valley has many good examples, notably at Edisford and Halton, and Cromwell's bridge over the river Hodder. Because these old bridges were in constant use by pedestrians, coaches, pack horse trains, and carriers' carts, upkeep was important. The poles suspended beneath this bridge may be to catch debris when floods occur. Sometimes salmon nets or baulks were fixed, but only by licence.
