More about this scene

The abbey is set at the end of a narrow, winding lane a mile out of Richmond, and sits comfortably in the peaceful valley of the River Swale. It was founded by Roald, Constable of Richmond Castle in 1155, for the Praemonstratensian Order, or White Canons as they were sometimes called. The remains include the refectory, the infirmary, and parts of the abbey church. The magnificent refectory still retains some of its fine geometric tracery.

Picnics
I lived across the field from Easby and as a child spent many Sundays down on the river bank at Easby with my parents and siblings picnicing. My aunts and cousins used to visit from Northumberland and we had fishing nets and jam jars on strings in which we collected our 'tiddlers'. We paddled in the river and in the 1950s many afternoons after school we cycled to Easby to play by the River Swale. Both my parents are buried at Easby.

However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
