Christmas Deliveries: If you placed an order on or before midday on Friday 19th December for Christmas delivery it was despatched before the Royal Mail or Parcel Force deadline and therefore should be received in time for Christmas. Orders placed after midday on Friday 19th December will be delivered in the New Year.

More about this scene

Here we see another busy beach view in 'The Empress of Watering Places' with many umbrellas protecting ladies from the summer sun. The photographer is here looking east past the recently-built bandstand, nicknamed 'The Bird Cage', towards the pier. This was by Eugenius Birch, who also designed Brighton's West Pier, and was completed in 1872. Note the higher deck of the landward section: this replaced the original section which was washed away in storms in 1877.

Victoria Court Hotel
My late granny, Ivy Howell/Ellis's aunt, Catherine Emma Constance Smith was the proprietor of the Victoria Court Hotel in the 1930s and 40s we think. My granny, who lived in an Industrial school in Poole was collected by aunt Catherine to stay in the hotel during some school holidays. Apparently, Catherine wanted to adopt my granny but sadly, the authorities wouldn't allow it.

Devonshire Baths
I was born in Eastbourne, Upperton Road Nursing Home. I have fond memories of being taken by my Father to the Devonshire swimming baths. This would have been between 1964 to 1967 I would have been 5 or 6 years old. Through the large wooden entrance doors. Paid sixpence or a shilling then decended the many flights of stairs down. Fairlea Meads
My grandmother appears as a cooks assistant at a school at Fairlea Meads ,Chesterfield Road in Eastbourne. Sadly I cannot find any photos of the building.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hampden Park
In 1977 we bought our first house in Hampden Park. I was working as a nurse at Eastbourne DGH in Kings Drive. I remember walking through the park at the start and end of my shifts. In the spring the park was carpeted with crocus's which was the most beautiful site. I hope they are still there today.

Genealogy & Research Images

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
