Childhood Days

A Memory of Etton.

I was born in Etton in 1951 my maiden name was Carter and in those days we lived at No. 6 West End next to the Danbys and Eric still lives in the same house. I attended Etton school and remember my teacher Miss. Taylor who was a kind and quiet sort of person I don't recall her really shouting at anyone. I recall one hot summer when we carried our desks outside and had a lesson in the playground and it was so hot that it melted our wax crayons!! My granddad lived at the back of the pond when he took delivery of the papers and every Christmas I got a Rupert annual and I still have them to this day. I also recall helping the Tates deliver milk on occasions if we asked nicely. My dad Fred worked at Spences farm and a few of us would ride the donkey that they had (think it was a seaside one) Also Gillian Hall had an old railway carriage at her dads farm and it was made into a playhouse for her. I also played with Pauline Huzzard who lived up at the Mill, Jean Wood whom I have lost contact with she lived in Leicester last time I wrote to her. Also my cousin Gillian Baxter (now Wiles) I still see her but not often. My Mum and me would go 'sticking' on a Sunday in the wood for firewood (kids of today would say that was boring!!) I enjoyed it. In fact I have a few good memories of Etton and if there is anyone else who can remember me I would like to hear from you.
