More about this scene

In the 18th century, Farningham was a stopping place on the main London-Dover road, but was by-passed with the construction of the A20. The Lion Hotel, down the hill, was a grand coaching inn whose gardens run down to the River Darent. On the right, the half-timbered Post Office and the adjoining small shops sport an impressive number of modern advertising signs.

The Early Fifties
I have very happy memories of Farningham. I Joined my family, mum & dad, an elder brother and sister, and baby brother at West Kingsdown, after living with my grandmother for some time, I was aged six. This was in 1949. Mum and Dad used to take us on Sunday's and Thursday evenings to the Kingom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at Lowfield Street in Dartford. Our Home
We currently live in this house, or to be correct the two cottages on the left which have been knocked through and made one, and luckily now with Central heating is quite warm and cosy. Like Mike and Rachael next door whom have also posted on this site, we also moved in in 2012, we love it, the views, surroundings, great neighbours, river running through the garden and the two pubs within yards could not be more perfect. The Lion Hotel Vena Monro
Does anyone have any memories of Vena Monro who ran The Lion Hotel in 1950's? We shared an ancestor ....

My Home, 2012
Me and my partner, Michael, moved in to number 1 Lion Cottages in March 2012. We love the house and its history, the village is quaint and idyllic, a perfect setting. Michael is 6 foot tall and cannot stand up in all areas of the house, but this adds to the character, a small sacrifice to make.

Genealogy & Research Images

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
