Our Introduction To Faversham.
A Memory of Faversham.
After our marriage in March 1962 my wife and I spent a short while in Gillingham, living with my mother and sister. My mother was managing a branch of Stuarts the Cleaners and we were aware that a similar vacancy was soon to be available in the Faversham branch. My wife was lucky enough to be successful enough to get the post. The job came with accommodation over the shop premises. This was a big break for us as there was a large room to the front which overlooked the market square with several other rooms including a kitchen and bedroom on the same level plus two bedrooms and a bathroom on the top floor. There was also a small room over the kitchen. The toilet was a 'primitive affair' tucked away at the top of one of the stairways in a small boxlike structure where you had to duck your head to get through the door.
We had a small dog, a miniature poodle, and that was when we suspected we were living in a place that was possibly haunted.
After discussing the possibility with the landlord of the Bear Inn, next door, and others in the area, we came to the conclusion that we would have been unique if we WEREN'T haunted.
I want to add this to the 'Memories' page and see if it generates any interest.
Faversham residents will have worked out where I am referring to when I add that Mr Sharp the barber had his shop next to Stuarts, and Radio Rentals were on the corner of West Street.
