Feltham 1939 1947
A Memory of Feltham.
I was born in Feltham in Vernon Road in 1935. My first memory is of going to Feltham Hill School. Apparently on my 2nd day I went home at break time to say to my mother that was it I've been to school. My best friend in Vernon Road was a girl called Monica. I must have been quite adventurous as I took my dog Bob and we walked to the railway lines at the top of Rayleigh Road and was about to cross when my mother caught up with us. Unfortunately, my mother and I had to leave Feltham in 1947. My father had died in 1944 and we could no longer afford to live in Feltham as there was very little work at the time for my mother to earn a living and keep us both. I often wonder what happened to the people I remember from those days. Our immediate neighbours were Mr & Mrs Iggleden and their family, next to them were Mr & Mrs Barnes and their son Charlie and then Mr & Mrs Thomas and their son Glenn.
