Ferring is a residential village near the sea. The Norman church keeps the registers of Kingston, a village long lost due to coastal erosion. Highdown Hill, 269 feet high, was a Roman dwelling place and Saxon burial ground. Here, too, is the Miller's Tomb. Local wind miller John Oliver built himself an inscribed tomb and a summerhouse close to his mill in 1766; he died in 1793, and was interred in his tomb. In the picture: In the picture we can see a bus stop sign on a concrete post, for Southdown route 106 only, Worthing to South Ferring. Marsh's stores and Ferring Motors' garage are on the opposite side of the road.
