Hardwick Service Station 1940 1955

A Memory of Hardwick.

My dad Ron Newell owned this garage from 1947 till 1954 ,when he sold it to Shell Petrol.
He brought it from my uncle, Bert Croad, who was an old truck(lorry) driver who used to drive from London to Scotland in the 1930's.
When my father purchased the Hardwick Service Station he was hoping petrol rationing would finish. It was continued by the Attlee labour government and my father has never since then voted Labour.
We used to supply local farmers and we ran a Taxi and a Towing service to Cambridge.
I remember the ex US and British army trucks my father used to repair then resell Old Petrol tankers and large military tank carriers.
It was a busy garage with a transport café next door where my mother used to work.
On Sunday if my parents were busy I had to walk back from Madingley sunday school.
