Harlow, The Green Man c.1955

More about this scene
The 15th-century Green Man is possibly Old Harlow's oldest pub. With the forge next door (left), it was an important staging post for coaches travelling from London to East Anglia or the North. Many coach routes started and finished here. The new turnpike road that was built bypassing Mulberry Green destroyed the trade catering for the coach passengers. The forge was very important during the coaching era, and was still working in the 1920s, but it is no longer operating, and is now a private house.
