Broxhill School 1967 To 1972

A Memory of Harold Hill.

My name is Geoff and I attended Broxhill School from 1967 until 1972. The school was a pretty substandard Secondary Modern School during my time there but, I understand, it became a Comprehensive in 1973.

I was interested to read the memories of Paula , from Hilldene Avenue, and her time at Ingrebourne School. Paula mentioned John Buxton. I certainly remember John. John’s mate was Alex Kidd.

I recall Hilldene shops and my mum buying my school shoes from a shop , John Barnet, on the corner of Farnham Road.

My parents moved into their, brand new, council house in Smart Close (Heaton Grange) in 1958. They lived in the house for the remainder of their lives until 2016.

I lost touch with all of my contacts in the area over the past 47 years but I expect some of the people I grew up with remain in the area.

Hi Geoff, I went to Broxhill School also, think I left in 73.
My Sister and her family lived in Smart close for around 40 years I guess until 2016 when she died.
Hi Lindamary,

Smart Close was a very small road. Only 16 houses, although a few more added since the local authority removed the garage blocks and crammed in more dwellings.

As a memory test I can still name all of the families that lived there in the 1960’s. it was a time when families were less mobile and you tended to know the names of everyone in the street.

I would be interested to know what number your sister lived at as I probably knew the family.
