Rs Snape
A Memory of Heswall.
I was a patient at the hospital in December 1949. I was there for approx. 6 months. There was a nurse called Mrs Snape who took a shine to me and gave me extra treats. Any sweets that were brought on to the ward had to be handed on to the nurses so all the children could share them. Needless to say some of mine went under my pillow so only I had them. We lay on the beds each day to try and get our lungs less congested. Large red blankets were placed on the beds before we could lie down. The windows were always wide open so that the fresh air would "do us good". Then we used to have tin mugs with hot drinks in. We always warmed our hands round the mugs as the wards were always quite cold.
