A Memory of Hounslow.
My father, Dr. Alexander Brodie Davie, was a GP in the Cranford/Hounslow area from 1938 until his death in 1978. He had a surgery at 723 Bath Road Cranford and then in Hounslow. My mother was a nurse at Hounslow Hospital where she met dad and they were married at St. Dunstan's Church, Cranford in 1943.
My Grandfather was in the 10th Hussars and was based at one time at Hounslow barracks. He and my grandma lived near the barracks when he retired. I don't remember the street but remember going there. They moved to Almorah Road in Heston. He used to commute each day from Hounslow West to Trafalger Square where he worked for Genn Mills Bank.
I was born in January 1945 and my brother Iain 18 months later. We lived in Cranford until I was eight or nine and then we moved to Colnbrook. When I was a month old I was in a pram in the back garden when the doodlebug went off in Heston. My parents were coming up the stairs from the underground at Hounslow West when the bomb went off. They rushed home hoping it hadn't hit our home and me! I went to Ashton House School in Iselworth for primary schooling and when we moved to Colnbrook I went to Long Close Prep school in Slough.
