The 'Hotspur II' is seen here connecting with the train, currently operating a half-hourly service. Converted to take passenger traffic, the pier has used the same locomotives ever since the line opened in 1922. Extensive replanking of the pierhead was carried out in 1982, after development to the buildings there in 1970-71.
