Christmas Deliveries: If you placed an order on or before midday on Friday 19th December for Christmas delivery it was despatched before the Royal Mail or Parcel Force deadline and therefore should be received in time for Christmas. Orders placed after midday on Friday 19th December will be delivered in the New Year.

A Memory of Ilkley.

like you my sister was born at Semen's, in May 1944 with our family living in Bradford at the time. I was born in 1942, but on Killinghall Road Bradford and like you we have often wondered why Mum went to Ilkley for the birth of her second baby.
Ilkley became a place with lots of happy memories, Cow & Calf Rocks, Ilkley Lido, the riverside and in later years the shops and cafes.

I was born here in 1943 as the hospital of St Lukes was full with "war wounded" and did not have a bed vacant, my mother lived in Bradford at the time. I have been past the area many times but now there is nothing to say what or where it was.

I was born at Semen's January 14, 1944. At the time the family were living in Bradford. In later years I was told that Mom had to go to Ilkley to give birth to avoid the bombings that were a great threat in Bradford at that time. Fortunately damage by Bombs on Bradford was minimal when the end of the war arrived compared to Cities in the South. As a teenager I emigrated to Canada with my parents where I have resided ever since. I am now in the later years of my life and it's amazing how a new found yearning and interest in ones roots cause one to explore and find out more information about one's origins, in my case Semen Maternity Hospital, Ilkley.
