Reference Simisters Butchers

A Memory of Irby.

The butchers shop indeed was Simisters, it was run and owned by Bob Simister, a good friend of my dad. Bob on retiring from being a butcher ran a taxi service from his home on Irby Road, I used him frequently when I was home on leave from the army to run me to Lime Street. There was also a fruit and veg shop called Millwards in the village and Miss Thompson had the haberdashery where if I recall correctly you could get spare parts for your bicycle also.

My nan ran the coffee and tea hall after Sunday service next door to the church. She was involved with the church daily for many years. She lived in The Close by the bus stop. I lived in woodlands road for a while as a child 1969 onwards. Mrs Stainton. I live still live in wirral and visit irby quite often still. I remember the doctors. Accountant in the village was a family friend and I was their bridesmaid. Happy memories.
