I remember well, a very nice park attendant in Grange Park in the 60's, are you talking about the 60's ?

Absolutely! This was my great grandmother's heyday. Any memories appreciated! I never knew her.

If it was the 60's then I remember your great grandmother well. I can't remember her name but she had Brown hair and always looked very smart and well groomed in her brown uniform. She was lovely and always kept an eye out for us children from the neighbouring streets who practically lived there. We weren't allowed to pick the flowers or go into the rose garden. The rose garden was a quiet place for adults to sit and admire the roses or the lillies in the Lilly pound, no children allowed! Naturally, being children we did everything we could to have a peep inside, hiding behind brushes etc. One day
Your great grandmother kindly let me and a friend walk through it very quickly, so as not to be seen. We felt so special.
Another time playing in the bushes backing on to Kilburn high road, I found about 4 shopping bags full of packets of cigarettes (obviously stolen ) I ran to tell your great grandmother but when we got back they were gone. As I said before, she was always on the look out for us children and made us feel safe. That park was full of children most of the year and we used to get up to all sorts, climbing trees and getting heads stuck in railings. Parents were relived to know she was there for us. It was never quite the same after she left.

I also remember Mrs Mac the attendant in the play ground area.
