More about this scene
This is one of the oldest schools in the Midlands. The timber-framed upper storey, supported on pillars, was built in the 15th century; the ground floor was underbuilt in the Elizabethan period. Its most famous schoolmaster was the Presbyterian preacher Thomas Hall, who presided from 1629 to 1667 and wrote stern pamphlets on such subjects as 'The loathsomeness of long hair.'
