Kingsbridge Grammar School

A Memory of Kingsbridge.

I attended KGS from 1952 - 1959.
The Old Grammar School seen in this picture had long been replaced by a much larger building in Westville, Kingsbridge.
For the first couple of terms, I remember walking in file from Westville, past the railway station, to this building where we sat on long benches and ate our school dinners.
It is a handsome building and now houses the William Cookworthy Museum.

Comments & Feedback

I arrived at KGS in 1959 and was glad to be spared the lengthy dinnertime hike by the Westville canteen - no joke on a soaking day. My first school was the Prep school a bit further up Fore St and I remember seeing the files of Grammar School pupils, all grown up, it seemed when I was small.
In the 1930s, my grandmother, Annie Wellington, was cook at KGS.
