More about this scene

There are two prominent buildings of quality in the village, firstly the 13th-century parish church of St Peter and St Paul, and Langham Old Hall with its date stone of 1665 built into the south wall. The will of Henry Forster dated 26 August 1692 directed that a school master at £10 per year be appointed at five Rutland villages, including Langham, to educate poor children free of cost. By 1907 the building in the photograph, which resembles a country railway station, had on average 108 pupils.
