Looking For Relatives Of George Barnes, High Sheriff Of Lichfield In 1883

A Memory of Lichfield.

The pub further down on the right in Bore St is, I believe, the George 4th owned as part of Lichfield Brewery, which belonged to, George Barnes family. George was born in 1838 and at one time was High Sheriff of the city, and his second wife was my great grandmother, Emma Elizabeth Spencer, Foden Barnes.

I am trying to find George Barnes relatives in the hope of finding out more about their few years together, when she owned The Parson & Clerk in Streetley, and they lived at 'The Hollies' Shenstone. I have written a family book about Emma, who has quite history, and would be really grateful if anyone has a photo of George and Emma together, which is a bit of a long shot, but there are no other photos of her in the family records of her three marriages.

Emma died after George (d. Feb 1916) and the funeral notice shows lots of relatives on Emma's side but few from the Barnes - so Emma may well have not been welcomed into the family when she married George, but nevertheless I am hoping that her story would soften even the hardest heart as she was abandoned by her first husband, and left with two lovely young children to fend for herself.

I am hoping to come up to Lichfield in the near future, so would love to hear from any of George's relatives.
Thank you so much for reading this,

Carol Smith-Tavinor
