More about this scene

We are high up in the Craven district. This is the splendid 12th-century church of St Michael and All Angels with its Norman arches. Also in the village is the very grand Fountaine Hospital, designed by Sir John Vanbrugh, the architect of Castle Howard. The hospital commemorates a local man, Richard Fountaine, who left the village in 1660 and eventually became Alderman of London. Nearby, Linton Falls cascade over the North Craven fault, giving a spectacular view at any time of the year.
