Liverpool, The Floating Road 1895

Our photographer is standing on the Prince's Landing Stage, looking up the floating road towards St Nicholas' Place and the church of Our Lady and St Nicholas at the top. We can also see the distinctive square Tower Building to the right. The floating road was supported on pontoons that rose and fell with the tide, which is high in our photo. This meant that wagons and lorries could drive straight onto the landing stage and board the luggage ferries for the journey over the Mersey, whatever the state of the tide. Can you make out the overhead railway, which had opened only two years earlier, running just below the church and tower building?
