Luton, Vauxhall Motors Factory c.1955

More about this scene
Such was the scale of operations at Vauxhall Motors that the maintenance and building contractors had their own site (foreground) complete with semi-permanent buildings, security and a fully operational communications system. The rear building on the hill is the famous J Block, the heart of car production and site of the first buildings erected for the company in Luton. H Block, housing the press shop, is the nearer building. Note how wartime camouflage paint is still visible; it remained so until at least the late 1970s.
