Machynlleth, The Corris Railway 1899

Corris, which gave its name to the Welsh narrow-gauge railway line, is a slate-quarrying village in the valley of the Afon Dulas. Slates are used here not just for roofing but for numerous other purposes, including fencing. The narrow gauge railway ran from Machynlleth to Corris. It was opened in 1859 and closed, following flooding, in 1948. This locomotive is now used on the Tal-y-Llyn railway.
