More about this scene
Near the trees flows the spring waters of Daniel`s Well, which is named after a bishop of Malmesbury Abbey who lived during the 8th century. He is reputed to have bathed in the waters. In the distance, high on the hill, stands the abbey, and to the west is the Old Bell Hotel. Beyond the stream, the River Avon flows towards the Mill Brewery, also called the Maltings; it was originally owned by C R Luce, and later became the Linolite Limited factory between 1941 and 1984. By 1958 Linolite Limited had purchased the property. The company designed and manufactured electric light fittings and signs. The director of the company invented the filament tubular electric lamp system in 1901, and the company specialised in the field of strip lighting.
