In the late 19th century, Melton Constable was an important railway junction with locomotive and rolling stock works; it was sometimes known as the Crewe of Norfolk. Some of the streets of terraced houses built for railway workers still survive, but no trains have run here since 1965.

The years were 61 and 62. I was the son of an American Serviceman stationed at the Air Base. My father chose to send me to the local elementary school.
