How sad to see the old school now razed to the ground. I was a pupil there from 1962 to 1964 when we moved away from the area. I travelled in by bus and we disembarked in front of what was then the Sarson School. Wondering if anyone can remember the Half Moon Inn back in the 50's/60;s. My family knew a Pat and DIck Coleman who ran a pub in Melton Mowbray and I am wondering if it was this one. My only memory of visiting them once in my childhood was that whichever pub it was, was near a Melton Mowbray Pie shop, and this pub seems to fit the bill. Also the name seems to ring a bell somewhere in my memory.

By the time we arrived in 1976, Mr Exhall the minister had retired and been replaced by the Reverend David Pearce and his young family. I remember we used to walk from my grandma's house in Nottingham Road opposite the Fire Station down through the park, cut through to Burton Street and about halfway up Burton Hill. I was never quite sure why we went there - probably some place my grandmother had stayed or someone she used to know. She said it was exactly a mile, but I only remember it was a very long way on my seven-year-old little legs.
