Christmas Deliveries: If you placed an order on or before midday on Friday 19th December for Christmas delivery it was despatched before the Royal Mail or Parcel Force deadline and therefore should be received in time for Christmas. Orders placed after midday on Friday 19th December will be delivered in the New Year.

Swimming Baths

A Memory of Mitcham.

I think that this view looks back towards the Mitcham Fair Green. If I am right, on the left would be the Swimming baths where I used to go now and again with friends. I seem to remember that it was very basic, with changing cubicles opening directly onto the pool.

i think this view is looking back to the fairgreen from the cricket green side. you can see the old toilets in the distance. the swimming baths would be further on going towards the swan but on the right

I remember the baths with the cubicles on the poolside. Ahead is Fair Green. I used to ride a horse from Bond Road Mitcham all thru Fair Green then over the bridge to Mitcham Common... back in 1960

As I remember the changing cubicles were on the right and the lockers on the left. Then you went through the slipper baths and out to the pool. The Tooting Bec lido actually had cubicles on the pool side.

Great memories of the swimming baths and that smell of clorine! Still got my certificate for being first in backstroke (Pollard's Hill Sec Mod, 1965) never learnt any other style! Remember those hot cups of Oxo on the way out! Bought my first 45rpm at the record store...Chris Montez "Let's Dance"....what a lovely stroll down memory lane...thank you! Barbara Hindle

It is most certainly London Road looking north(ish) to Fair Green around No.240. I should know because in 1960 I was living with mum & dad and sister at No.241A London Road which was the flat above Midland Bank where dad worked as a junior cashier !! Probably just a bit behind the camera position on the right side.

I remember being entered into a swimming gala at the baths by my Boy's Brigade troop (Pollards Hill) just days after barely learning to swim at the outdoor baby pool at Pollards Hill Junior School. My father insisted I was on an inside lane which was just as well as he had to fish me out after I spluttered my way to half way down.
