In the mid 19th century, as Birmingham expanded rapidly, wealthy businessmen were moving out of the city to prime suburbs such as Edgbaston, Harborne and Moseley, where some large, imposing residences sprang up. Towards the end of the century many smaller houses were also built in Moseley, which became a notably cosmopolitan community.

Heather Benton - at 10/11 years' old I attended Moseley College and remained there for the rest of my schooling. It was a wonderful old building with laurel surrounded gardens where we pupils spent hours of break time making up stories of family adventures until it was time to return to the class rooms.
