More about this scene
This is how I remember New Brighton. Arriving on the ferry, walking the promenade, we were teenagers trying to impress. It was cheap and tacky, but the arcades and fairground were just what we wanted. This side of the pier was the promenade, with the theatre, and the swimming baths. The other side, further up the Mersey, was the fairground and the large model railway, which carried children and their parents on what seemed a journey of miles, through jungle and adventure land.
