Nostalgic memories of Northolt's local history

Share your own memories of Northolt and read what others have said

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our web site to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was when the photographs in our archive were taken. From brief one-liners explaining a little bit more about the image depicted, to great, in-depth accounts of a childhood when things were rather different than today (and everything inbetween!). We've had many contributors recognising themselves or loved ones in our photographs.

Why not add your memory today and become part of our Memories Community to help others in the future delve back into their past.

My name is Peter Holmes, I lived at 70 Moat Farm Road from 1945 to 1964. I went to Islip Manor School and went to Vincent school in 1955. I left school in1960 and worked in the butchers next to the cabin on the race course estate. I married Lynda Stone and we now live in Dorset. I would like to hear from anyone who remembers us.
I went to Vincent Secondary School, I lived in Wilsmere Drive until 1976
I lived in the close from 1960 - 1981 when I married and moved away...not far, firstly to Carr Road, Northolt and then Ruislip where I have been since 1982. In the close I grew up with lots of friends like Gordon (Bubsy) Field, Norman Yoxall, Doug Gosling, Paul Woodwood and my best friend Clifford Thorn who sadly died when he was only a teenager. Memories of playing football under the street lamp at the top of the ...see more
My name is Jenny and when I lived in Northolt I was named Jenny Shepheard. If anyone remembers me I would love to hear from them. I went out with a guy called Steve Hewlett for many years whose mum and dad were called Jack and Pat. He had two sisters called Lou and Tracy and a brother who moved to Canada called Bobby. I used to spend time at Northolt swimming baths, Load of Hay, The Oriel Youth Club, ...see more
I have only just found this interesting site. We moved to Newmarket Ave. during 1958 and I attended both Islip Manor and St.Vincent Schools. What a great time I had, growing up on the racecource estate, making camps in the unbuilt-on fields, playing in and on building site houses and football on the large green at the front of the estate. St.Vincents was a great school, especially for sports. ...see more
I wonder if anyone knows of a childrens home in Northolt. It was around 1958ish my brother's and I were put in the home, it was run by a lady I knew as Auntie Rea. My eldest brother, Edwin, was too old to reside in the same home as my brother Terry and I, he was in a home nearby so we often saw him. I remember a piece of land next door to the home where we played, my brothers and I often found old gas ...see more
Does anyone remember my mother? Her name was Margaret Joyce Goldman. She sang at the Clay Pigeon pub I believe and met my father, Robert Shillinglaw there. This happened in the early 1940s. She passed away a couple of years ago and if anyone knew of her I would love to hear. She came from the Greenford Road originally. Her son, Barry Dady
I left the above school in 1968 to start work. Does anyone remember Mr Mills the PE teacher? Happy day. Bye the way, I lived in Doncaster Gardens and my brother John and sister Sandra who also went to this school to.
My grandparents Jack and Beral Storey lived at 8 Plumpton Close with their kids Ricky, Stevie, Sharon and Darrell. My dad was Stevie who sadly passed away in 1980. I spent every weekend at my nan's and have great memories like going to bingo at the working mans club round the corner where my grandad Jack would call the numbers, going round the cabin to get my aunty Sharon Embassy no.6 with a 50p wrapped up in a note ...see more
In 1955 when I was two year old I had TB and I stayed at a large house in Northolt. Does anybody know anything about this place at all or have any photos please? Being so young my memory of it is practically nil. Thank you. Lynne
