Oakham, The Castle c.1955

More about this scene
This view of the castle grounds looks east from the church tower. Friesian cows are grazing; perhaps they belong to Mr E Ball, who owned property to the right in the Market Place. Beyond the cows, the hill is the site of the original castle motte. Beyond that are the houses along Burley Road.
