Ada! Headmistress

A Memory of Ormskirk.

Hello does anyone remember myself and my two sisters, Maureen, Joan and Susan Humphreys? We lived at Minster Lodge, Ruff Lane, Ormskirk. 'Ada' was the nickname for the headmistress!
In the 1970s... Let me know, please. Regards, Maureen

I was there from 1963-69, Mr Collinge was the Headmaster and Mr Croft the Deputy Head. I don't recall "Ada", was she the Librarian? Other teachers were Mr O'Kane, Mr Boyle, Bill Dwyer, Mr McManus, Mrs Aindow (Art). Good memories, best regards to all who attended, David Moss
I started at St. Bede's in September 1970. Mr Collinge (Herbert) was still the headmaster but was soon replaced by Mr Croft. I think Mr Collinge was seriously I'll or died suddenly as by the end of my first year Mr Croft was promoted. He did much to improve the school by, for example, increasing the number of subjects. We were the first pupils at the school to learn German, from the start of the second year, thanks to Miss Battersby who joined at that time. She taught French too and was an excellent teacher, probably the best I had there. Ada McMahon was the Senior Mistress but I was never sure what she did. She did seem to spend plenty of time in the library and I think she may have taught English at one point but that was before my time. I don't think she did any teaching when I was there, certainly not English where Joe Boyle and Paddy O'Kane alternated the "O" level year. For those who might remember me, I'm Ronnie Heath, the youngest of 4 to pass through St. Bede's following in the footsteps of older siblings Margaret and Thomas, who had both left before I started, and Elizabeth, who was in the year above me. Those were the days, my friend....
