Long Warm Sunny Days
A Memory of Plymouth.
I was probably about 8 years old when this photo was taken, and I can clearly remember spending many summer days at the lido with my friends. I was talking to my granddaughter who is now 8 yrs old but living in Singapore, and so or chat was on Skype. She has always liked the water and swimming and is now learning to swim properly at school and to dive. So my conversation was about how I used to jump off the scary diving board into the deep end. Later, whilst I was trying to find some photos of the old lido with its diving board I became aware that it was removed in 1990s before or at about the time that the whole facility closed. I left Plymouth in 1966, and I have rarely gone back, but I know that the lido has since been reopened, and my wife and I visited the Hoe during a trip of nostalgia in August 2017. I just hope that the present crop of youngsters have as much fun at this iconic lido as my friends and I did and that it remains open for many years to come.
