More about this scene

The war memorial, unveiled in 1921, was designed by Sir William Boscombe John, and stands on the site of Port Sunlight's old gymnasium. It is a unique and dramatic representation of the sufferings of the whole of society. The centrepiece, a large granite cross, is surrounded by eleven bronze figures symbolising the defence of the home. The circular parapet surrounding the cross has two bronze panels on either side of the four flights of steps, which depict children presenting floral garlands in token of gratitude. There are four more bronze panels set between these representing sea, land and air forces and the Red Cross. Inscribed in stone round the rim of the parapet is: 'Their names shall remain and forever their glory shall not be blotted out'.

Port Sunlight For A Raf Kid
I was born in 1958. My father was in the RAF. His mother, my grandmother lived at 6 Jubilee Crescent Port Sunlight. Whenever we moved from one RAF camp to another we would stay at my Nanas for a couple of weeks, while the house we were moving to was vacant. How I loved it there. Always so much to do. Life In The 1960s
This photo of the art gallery reminds me of how we used to go rolling down the banks. Lots of children did this regularly and as you went towards the back of the gallery, the banks got steeper! It could be quite alarming, yet exhilarating at the same time! There was a statue outside the back of the art gallery which is now unseen. A Chilhood In Port Sunlight
have just spent a wonderful hour looking through the photographs of Port Sunlight, they have brought back so many memories that are as clear as day still to me. I first came to live in the village with an aunt and uncle in1939 ,so of course the war years were quite prevellent in my experience. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
